Abe Yoshitoshi Art Collection




Yoshitoshi ABe (安倍 吉俊, Abe Yoshitoshi?, born August 3, 1971) is a Japanese graphic artist who works predominantly in anime and manga. He received his Master of Fine Arts from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. His works have an edgy style due to, among other things, his not using a ruler while drawing as is usual for most anime-style art. He first gained fame in his work on the avant-garde anime Serial Experiments Lain. He is also responsible for the concept and character design for the series NieA under 7. He is the creator of the doujinshi Haibane Renmei which was then adapted into an anime. He is a colleague and friend of Chiaki J. Konaka, with whom he collaborated on the series Serial Experiments Lain and Texhnolyze. He usually uses the Romaji form of his name instead of the kanji, with the “B” in “ABe” capitalized, as a reminder of his early works, for which he used the pen name “AB”.

I downloaded it from moe.imouto and kept the original file names that it gave me. The reason for the huge file size is the high resolution of the images.

Kubo began working on the series Bleach in hopes that he would finally get one of his own manga accepted by Shonen Jump, but it was sadly rejected as well. This was due to its similarities to the series Yu Yu Hakusho by Yoshihiro Togashi. Times got very depressing for Kubo at this point until he received a letter of encouragement from Akira Toriyama, the creator of the hit series Dragon Ball. It was then that Kubo found renewed hope and in 2002 Bleach was finally published and began serialization in Shonen Jump.

The artbook “All Colour But The Black” (published as The Art of Bleach by Viz Media) is a compilation, a selection of color spreads from the first 19 volumes of the series, as well as some original art and author commentary. In addition, the book contains recreation of the chapter covers that showed each of the Gotei 13 captains as present at the beginning of the Soul Society Arc.

An Omnipresence in Wired by Yoshitoshi ABe is surely one of the greatest anime artbooks ever made. Hardcover with a plastic slip-case and containing 128-pages of art on high quality paper, the package is irresistible. Most of the art is full-color, but even the few black and white drawings are stunning. The variety of illustrations and drawings is excellent as well. The various illustrations that appeared in AX Magazine, all the cover art, PSX game art, stuff from the various omake (LD and DVD extras), design sketches, a beautiful and creepy full-color comic… it’s all there and more. The layout is simple — not as interesting as Visual Experiments Lain — but the content is rich. With not much text at all, Omnipresence contains page after page of gorgeous illustrations, many of them full page or even spanning two pages. Each in their own way, the two books are a visual tour de force. omnipresence is not easy to find and it is relatively expensive, but if you love Lain, you can’t do without this book. — misceLAINeous

Before having her “clean” mangaka debut, she wrote h-doujinshis under the name Mayu Nagase.

Aoi Nanase is more of an Illustrator than Mangaka.
She had only published one manga, “Angel/Dust”, but have done a lot of character design works for games and anime.

Most famous design is the character called “Nakoruru” from “Samurai Spirits”, however, she somehow lost the copyright by selling it to the company “SNK” which does not exsist now. (Bought by another gaming company.)

This is the first volume of “Archives of Studio Ghibli”, containing some artwork and articles for Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds and Laputa, Castle in the Sky. One particular article by Toshio Suzuki, in English, called “10 Years of Studio Ghibli” is of special interest.

Many of the images in this artbook can be also found stand-alone in The Art of Studio Ghibli and pre-Ghibli torrent.

I couldn’t locate any other volumes of this artbook, yet. However, I think it does not warrant an incomplete tag as this artbook covers two complete films.

Sugisaki Yukiru is a Japanese manga artist. Her hobbies are dramas, video games, and “collecting rabbit things”. She made her debut in Asuka Magazine with Namaiki no N. Her other works include D.N.Angel (13 volumes, unfinished), Rizelmine (1 volume, finished), Lagoon Engine (7 volumes, unfinished), and Lagoon Engine Einsatz (1 volume, unfinished). Her D.N.Angel manga and Rizelmine manga have also been adapted into anime series. Because the D.N.Angel manga was incomplete at the time, the anime has many differences to the original manga, most notably the ending.

This collection contains eight artbooks for the short films, which are displayed exclusively at the Ghibli Museum cinema. To watch these films, you will have to perform the pilgrimage to the Ghibli Museum itself. Otherwise, you may only enjoy the still images in these artbooks and listen to the music from the films.

As a bonus, I included a few sketches for the Ghibli museum deco, drawn by Hayao Miyazaki’s second son, Keisuke Miyazaki.

Description
Set during the same timeframe as Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, after the fall of the Titans the Earth Federation sends an expeditionary force called Task Force Alpha, to deal with a group of elite Federation officers who have formed their own Earth-supremacist faction, the New Desides.

Gundam Sentinel took on a much more realistic, technical style of thinking and look at the Gundam universe, where mobile suits were seen more as fighter jets or military weapons, rather than as cartoonish robots. They were larger, their weapons more powerful than their predecessors’, the characters were older and the plot was on a smaller scale than what is usually found in other Gundam. It also marked the debut of Hajime Katoki, who would become one of the franchise’s most prolific mechanical designers. Gundam Sentinel is perhaps the best-known Gundam side-story ever written, and is said to be for the most mature of Gundam fans.

The first 64 pages of this artbook are a novel. It is externally translated. There is a pdf file with the English text. The remainder of this artbook is not translated.

This is a very rare album from Hotta Yoshie exhibition The Troublous Time Depicted by Ghibli. Among the works on display were Goro Miyazaki’s drawings for a possible film, based on Yoshie’s book Teika and Chomei. The majority of the album documents the life and works of Hotta Yoshie through text and photographs.

Rojou no Hito exhibition – Some time ago Studio Ghibli had an exhibition called Hotta Yoshie Ten: The Troublous Time Depicted by Ghibli. Its first part was the introduction of Hotta with his notebooks, handwritings and so on and it was followed with a second part exhibited by Studio Ghibli which was titled Trying to make a plan on filming Hotta’s work. Numerous image boards were made and displayed and one of its themes was Rojou no Hito (A Person on the Road) which has been given a special exhibition at Ghibli Museum in Mitaka. Miyazaki Goro’s Rojou no Hito exhibition at Ghibli Museum Rojou no Hito follows its main character Yona De Lotta, a vagabond who lived in Europe’s early 13th century. Before nations were formed Yona traveled around Europe earning his living as a servant of knights, monks and traveling entertainers. During his traveling, he saw lots of things like poverty, bandits, the church’s irreducibility, apostate priests, pure devotions, heretics, the brutality of the crusade and so on and so on. Seeing them made Yona think “Why?” and in that sense Yona, who watched the facts from the street, was just like Hotta and his way of life. A person on the road who questioned the livings of the people who lived in these troublous times.

Miyazaki Goro and some of the Ghibli staff depicted a chaotic Europe from the Middle Ages, resulting in an exhibition with 79 imageboards and 6 artboards that show Ghibli’s wish of Hotta’s work needed to be read more often as nowadays we too are living in a troublous time.

A project plan for Teika and Chomei by Miyazaki Goro – “Studio Ghibli depicting the world of Hotta’s work.” That was the assignment given to me in this exhibition. But how? Ghibli is an animation studio. So how would it be if we would make his work into animation? We thought of making a plan & imageboards out of it as a thing we could do and so all of that incarnated as this exhibition. In other words, this exhibition is the preparation-of-the-preparation for filming Hotta’s work.

Hyung-tae Kim Art Collection





Hyung-Tae Kim (born February, 1978, Seoul) is a Korean artist. He has designed characters for video games such as the Magna Carta series and the later installments of the War of Genesis series (War of Genesis: Tempest, War of Genesis III and War of Genesis III: Part 2). He began his video games career working in the field of background music, then shifted to art and design. He has branched out into the comic book industry, serving as a guest cover artist, and has contributed to the Udon street fighter series. He is currently working on an MMORPG in NCsoft known previously as “Project M.” The official title is Blade & Soul revealed in July 31, 2008. Blade & Soul is an Asian Martial Artsy Fantasy with cultural influences mainly from the Korean culture. Though it was rumored that Kim would not do primary designs for the game, the video clip of Blade and Soul suggests Kim was responsible for the character designs. Kim is an artist in the manhwa style. His latest artworks use a deformation technique where Kim disregards anatomical accuracy to achieve a specific feel to the character.

Masakazu Katsura (桂 正和), born December 10, 1962, is a Japanese mangaka who is best known for several works of manga, including Dream Fighter Wingman, Shadow Lady, DNA², Video Girl Ai, and the most prominent of his work, I”s. He has also worked on the character designs for Iria: Zeiram the Animation, which was based on the movie Zeiram.

This Collection Contains the Katsura Masakazu artbooks L-side and R-side. (Lovers-side and heRoes-side respectively) Published August, 1998.
L-side contains illustrations from I”s(アイズ), Video Girl (電影少女), M(エム), and Little Akari(小さな灯り).

This book is a culmination of POP’s work with his doujin circle ElectromagneticWave over the past year [2009] on this project and it includes the finished and final anime episode on DVD.

There are about 18 pages of POP’s illustrations in this book, and several are spreads. There is an amazing amount of thought that goes into structuring the shots just right for us to perceive them as appealing. This catalogue from Studio Ghibli’s exhibition on layout designs shows us some of the effort, which went into it. The pages present sample layouts from all major films by Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, both from the days of Ghibli and from before. The book is in Japanese with a short English introduction in the beginning.

The catalogue itself is from 2008 – the exhibition ran between 26.07.2008 and 28.09.2008. However, according to the official Ghibli website, the exhibition is held again now between 09.10.2010 and 10.01.2011 in Aomori Museum of Art

Artist Biography
Terada Katsuya is probably best known in the United States as the character-designer for the animated film Blood: The Last Vampire. He has also done work related to American comics, such as Iron Man and Hellboy (one of his illustrations was used for an official statuette of Hellboy). In Japan, he is probably best known for the Tantei Jingūji Saburō mystery-adventure video game series.

Terada has defined himself as a “rakugaki” artist, more of a philosophy than a style of drawing, in which one draws a little everywhere, all the time, without thinking too much, on notebooks etc. He is a very prolific artist; one of his collections of sketches numbers more than 1000 pages, appropriately called Rakuga King.

He has done very little group-drawn work (an exception being the manga Saiyukiden Daienou (Monkey King), his principal activities being illustration and character design.

His use of CG tools is integrated very well in his illustrations, giving his work a vivid and rich appearance. Most distinctive, though, are the female faces in his work, which could be described as “cute”, but with a dangerous or elusive character to the eyes. He has admitted various influences on his work, particularly European ones, like Jean Giraud (a.k.a. Moebius) and the

Okama (born May 25, 1974) is a Japanese manga artist and illustrator. He is known as the artist of Cloth Road as well as the original character designer for Himawari and Glass no Kantai. He was also involved in Gunbuster 2, most noticeably in the ending design. Okama began his career by publishing various dōjin works (usually hentai themed), and made his debut in the professional world in 1998, with most of his early work also being hentai erotica themed. In late 1999, he began his first non-adult orientated serialization Cat’s World. Currently, Okama is involved in a multitude of works and projects, including the serialization of Cloth Road, association with several animation projects, illustration for various magazines, as well as minor dōjin activities. Like artbooks for other anime series, the 80-page VEL includes plenty of screen shots, conceptual drawings, original illustrations, and informational text in Japanese. Text aside, VEL is simply great to look at. VEL is not a book of original illustrations, so the work of Yoshitoshi ABe (original character designer) is not heavily featured. On the other hand, it does include some excellent full-color illustrations by Takahiro Kishida, who drew the animation character designs.
